On Wednesday night, hundreds of fans and musicians gathered at Heartwood Soundstage in Gainesville, Florida, turning grief into a community sing-along for Dolly Parton.
People arrived with instruments and moved through songs that have lived in families, cars, bars, and kitchens for generations. Attendees pointed to Dolly’s charity work and Imagination Library alongside her music as part of the reason the loss felt so personal.
That is the sweet spot of a Dolly tribute: sing the songs, tell the stories, and leave a little kinder than you arrived. Gainesville did all three.
